Lab Overview

In this lab you will create an SSM Automation runbook that restarts a simulated application process on an EC2 instance, triggered by a CloudWatch alarm via SNS.

You will:

  • Launch a tagged EC2 instance with SSM Agent
  • Write an SSM Automation document that stops and restarts a process via RunShellScript
  • Create a CloudWatch alarm on a custom metric that triggers SNS
  • Wire SNS to SSM Automation via EventBridge and Lambda
  • Test end-to-end: simulate failure, alarm triggers, runbook executes, process restarted

Region: us-east-1.
