S3 Versioning and Replication Recovery
Build a resilient S3 setup: enable versioning, configure cross-region replication to us-east-2, recover from accidental deletes via delete markers, and apply a lifecycle policy.
Lab Overview
In this lab you will build a production-style S3 resilience pattern using versioning, Cross-Region Replication (CRR), and lifecycle rules.
You will:
- Create a source bucket in us-east-1 and a destination bucket in us-east-2 with versioning enabled on both
- Create an IAM role that S3 will assume to perform replication, and attach a least-privilege policy
- Configure a CRR rule on the source bucket targeting the destination
- Upload an object, observe it replicate, simulate accidental deletion, then recover by removing the delete marker
- Apply a lifecycle policy that transitions current versions to Standard-IA at 30 days and expires noncurrent versions after 7 days
Everything runs from a single AWS workstation against a TeKanAid-provisioned AWS lab account.
