Lab Overview
Build a DNS failover architecture on AWS using Route 53 and two Application Load Balancers. You will deploy a primary and secondary web tier in separate subnets, create a Route 53 private hosted zone with failover routing records and health checks, then simulate a primary-site outage to verify automatic DNS failover to the secondary ALB.
You'll learn to:
- Deploy two independent ALB-backed web tiers in different Availability Zones
- Create a Route 53 private hosted zone and associate it with a VPC
- Configure Route 53 health checks against ALB endpoints
- Set up failover routing policy with primary and secondary records
- Simulate a failure and observe automatic DNS failover
- Verify failback when the primary tier recovers
