Lab Overview

Deploy a Multi-AZ Amazon RDS MySQL instance and experience automatic failover first-hand. You will connect to the database from an EC2 workstation, force a failover reboot, verify the DNS endpoint switches to the new primary, and create an RDS Proxy to reduce future failover time.

You'll learn to:

  • Inspect a Multi-AZ RDS deployment and identify the primary Availability Zone
  • Connect to an RDS MySQL instance from an EC2 workstation
  • Force a failover and observe the Availability Zone switch
  • Verify that the same DNS endpoint resolves to the new primary
  • Create an RDS Proxy for connection pooling and faster failover
