Complete Platform Engineering Capstone - Design & Implementation
Design and implement a production-grade platform from scratch, integrating all platform engineering skills learned throughout the bootcamp.
Lab Overview
🛠 Lab from the Platform Engineering Bootcamp. Used in Weeks 15, 21. Bootcamp landing page: https://academy.tekanaid.com/bootcamps/platform-engineering-bootcamp Parent course(s):
- Week 15: Python for Platform Engineering: Part 2 (slug: python-platform-engineering-part-2)
- Week 21: Platform Hardening & Production Readiness: Capstone Part 2 (slug: platform-hardening-production-readiness)
This is an open-ended capstone where you design and build your own internal developer platform from scratch, not tied to the TaskFlow project.
This capstone lab challenges you to design and build a complete production-grade Internal Developer Platform from the ground up. You'll apply all the skills learned throughout the bootcamp - from infrastructure as code to GitOps, Backstage developer portal, observability, and security - to create a real-world platform that could support a production engineering organization.
You'll design the architecture, implement infrastructure as code with Terraform, set up GitOps workflows with ArgoCD, deploy Backstage as the developer portal with a software catalog and self-service templates, deploy comprehensive monitoring, and implement production-grade security controls. This is your opportunity to demonstrate mastery of platform engineering principles.
By the end of this lab, you'll have a portfolio-worthy Internal Developer Platform that showcases your ability to build production-ready infrastructure with a unified developer experience.
