Author and validate the platform artifacts behind self-service deployment: Backstage Software Templates, deployment workflow manifests, and the RBAC a scaffolder action uses to deploy to Kubernetes. Backstage and Crossplane are not deployed in this lab; you author, apply, and validate the YAML artifacts (templates, manifests, RBAC) that an internal developer platform relies on, not a running Backstage/Crossplane control plane.
What You'll Learn
Author a Backstage Software Template manifest (scaffolder.backstage.io/v1beta3) that developers would use to scaffold a new Node.js microservice
Define the scaffolded output a developer would receive from a template and apply the generated Kubernetes deployment manifest to the cluster
Author a self-service deployment workflow template and the RBAC (ServiceAccount, Role, RoleBinding) a scaffolder action would use to deploy to a namespace
Author an infrastructure-provisioning template that references a Crossplane Composite Resource Claim as a design reference (Crossplane is not deployed in this lab)
Author an example GitHub Actions CI/CD pipeline manifest that a Backstage template would inject into a scaffolded service
