Database Migration Design Workshop
Design end-to-end database migration architectures for the SAP-C02 exam. Assess migration readiness, design DMS replication architectures, create schema conversion strategies with SCT, and build a complete migration runbook -- all focused on exam decision patterns for DMS, SCT, and database modernization.

Lab Overview
Database migration scenarios are heavily tested on the AWS SAP-C02 exam, appearing across Domain 1 (Design Solutions for Organizational Complexity), Domain 2 (Design for New Solutions), and Domain 4 (Migration and Modernization). This workshop-style lab teaches you the complete database migration design methodology: assessing source database readiness, architecting DMS replication topologies (full load vs CDC vs full load + CDC), designing SCT schema conversion strategies for heterogeneous migrations, and building production-grade migration runbooks with rollback plans. You'll deploy source and target RDS MySQL instances, use the AWS CLI to explore DMS concepts, create comprehensive design documents and decision matrices, and compile an exam-focused study guide covering every database migration scenario tested on the SAP-C02. No actual DMS replication instances are provisioned (lab guardrails) -- this lab focuses entirely on the architecture design and decision-making skills the exam demands.
What You'll Learn
Design DMS architectures including replication instance sizing, endpoint configuration, and task type selection for full load and CDC workloads
Create SCT schema conversion strategies for heterogeneous database migrations including Oracle to Aurora PostgreSQL patterns
Assess source database migration readiness including schema complexity analysis and pre-migration checklists
Build complete database migration runbooks with cutover procedures, data validation, and rollback plans
Apply SAP-C02 exam database migration decision patterns: homogeneous vs heterogeneous tool selection, downtime tolerance analysis, and DMS vs native tools tradeoffs
Prerequisites
Familiarity with core AWS services (RDS, EC2, VPC, CloudWatch)
Understanding of relational database concepts (MySQL, schema design)
Basic AWS CLI proficiency
Knowledge of DMS and SCT concepts from AWS documentation
