Lab Overview

This is the hands-on lab for Section 4 of the Boundary 101 course. Setup already installed pinned Boundary Community Edition 0.21.3 and PostgreSQL-16 on one Ubuntu VM. You start boundary dev, authenticate, and complete a first session. This is not a production cluster.

You will:

  • Confirm the 0.21.3 pin and start boundary dev with -database-url against

host PostgreSQL-16 (an empty URL starts Docker Postgres, and this lab does not install Docker)

  • Authenticate with the generated password method using -keyring-type=none,

then inspect default scopes, auth methods (ampw, amoidc, amldap), and the generated TCP targets (ttcp_*)

  • Connect to the generated TCP target on 127.0.0.1 port 22 with

boundary connect ssh and the VM-local ed25519 key, then list and cancel the session

  • Confirm the client cache daemon with boundary cache status after a CLI

command has started it

boundary connect ssh is a helper on a TCP target. Do not run boundary targets create ssh. The Admin Console on HTTP port 9200 exists in dev mode and is not scored.
