VM Scale Sets and Load Balancing

Build a public load balancer, deploy a minimal Linux VM scale set behind it, validate health probes and backend pool membership, then plan the two-VM fallback for when scale set quotas or permissions block the primary path.

Lab Overview

Practice the Azure scaling and load balancing skills that AZ-104 administrators are expected to operate.

You will prepare an Azure CLI workspace, create a Standard public load balancer with a health probe and rule, deploy a minimal Uniform VM scale set (1-2 instances on an allowed small VM size) wired into the load balancer backend pool, configure a simple autoscale profile, and validate end-to-end health and traffic distribution.

Because VM scale set quota and provider permissions can be restricted on shared subscriptions, the lab is designed to run under Contributor and includes a clearly scoped fallback task: plan and document a two-VM-behind-a-load-balancer topology with health probes so you can still meet the learning objective if the scale set path is blocked.
