Nomad Monitoring
Monitor a Nomad cluster and its jobs with Prometheus, Alertmanager, and Fabio.
Lab Overview
Nomad's client and server agents collect runtime telemetry. Operators can use this data to gain real-time visibility into their clusters and improve performance, and can export the metrics to tools like Prometheus, Grafana, Graphite, DataDog, and Circonus.
In this lab you run the entire monitoring stack itself as Nomad jobs on a 4-node cluster (1 server, 3 clients) backed by Consul service discovery:
- Deploy the Fabio load balancer and Prometheus as Nomad jobs, with Prometheus discovering scrape
targets automatically through Consul.
- Add Prometheus Alertmanager and wire Prometheus to it, including an alerting rule.
- Deploy a demo web server, stop it to watch the "Webserver down" alert fire in both Prometheus and
Alertmanager, then restart it and watch the alert clear.
This lab follows the approach of HashiCorp's "Use Prometheus to Monitor Nomad Metrics" tutorial. We recommend completing the Nomad Basics, Nomad Simple Cluster, and Nomad Multi-Server Cluster labs first.
