Lab Overview

In this scenario-based workshop you are given three business scenarios with different Recovery Point Objective (RPO) and Recovery Time Objective (RTO) requirements. For each scenario you will select the correct AWS disaster recovery pattern. You implement the backup-restore and pilot-light patterns hands-on, then compare all three against warm standby by monthly cost.

You'll learn to:

  • Map RPO/RTO requirements to DR patterns (backup-restore, pilot light, warm standby)
  • Create AWS Backup vaults and backup plans for automated protection
  • Configure S3 cross-region replication for pilot-light data synchronization
  • Create stopped EC2 pilot-light instances with pre-configured user data
  • Set up Route 53 health checks for failover readiness
  • Compare cost profiles across DR strategies to make informed decisions
