Azure Site Recovery: DR Planning and Recovery Runbook (Scenario)

Plan an Azure Site Recovery disaster recovery design. Analyze requirements, create a live Recovery Services vault, then design replication topology, RPO/RTO targets, and a failover runbook as planning artifacts without running live replication or failover.

Lab Overview

Practice the disaster recovery planning that Azure administrators do before any Azure Site Recovery (ASR) replication is ever enabled.

This is a scenario-only lab. Live ASR replication takes hours to seed and failover is destructive and costly, so this lab does not replicate or fail over anything. The only live, Contributor-safe Azure action is creating a Recovery Services vault and inspecting its replication-ready properties, which is fast and quota-friendly.

You will analyze a DR requirements brief, create a Recovery Services vault in an approved Azure region and inspect it, design a primary-to-secondary replication topology across two approved regions, author RPO and RTO targets with a recovery plan outline, and record a failover and failback runbook decision. Each design step produces a reviewed JSON artifact that the checks validate.
