Lab Overview

🛠 Lab from the Platform Engineering Bootcamp. Used in Week 12. Bootcamp landing page: https://academy.tekanaid.com/bootcamps/platform-engineering-bootcamp Parent course(s):

  • Week 12: Ansible Configuration Management (slug: ansible-configuration-management)

🟡 Beta bootcamp lab. Hands-on instructions, check scripts, and solve scripts are in place. Lab is part of the running TaskFlow project that grows across all 21 weeks of the bootcamp.

Level up your Ansible skills with roles and organization patterns used in production. Create reusable Ansible roles with proper structure, leverage Ansible Galaxy for community automation, and apply best practices for maintainable infrastructure automation.

You'll transform monolithic playbooks into organized, reusable roles for TaskFlow infrastructure components (Nginx, PostgreSQL, Redis). Learn role composition, dependency management, and how to build a personal role library for common automation tasks.

What You'll Learn

Understand role structure (tasks, handlers, templates, vars, defaults, meta)

Create Ansible roles using ansible-galaxy init command

Organize playbooks using roles instead of monolithic task lists

Use Ansible Galaxy to find and install community roles

Implement role dependencies in meta/main.yml

Distinguish between defaults/main.yml and vars/main.yml precedence

Create role library for TaskFlow stack (nginx, postgresql, redis)

Compose multiple roles into complete automation

Test roles independently before production use

Apply Ansible best practices (idempotency, documentation, variable naming)

Use role variables for multi-environment flexibility
